So much for freedom of religion…

By Stellar

Some ignorant piece of shit killed two people at a Unitarian Universalist church in Tennessee. Supposedly he hated liberals because he’s unemployed. And I’m going to pass up this easy opportunity to bash the current administration because really this transcends politics. The fact is we have unemployment regardless of who’s in the White House.

What really infuriates me most is that he would target a church. I’m not a very religious person, but I’ve been to a UU service with a friend. The sermon that day was about being kind to animals. The minister went so far as to say that maybe instead of killing a roach we could just throw it outside. Now don’t get me wrong, I hate all creepy crawlies and my personal stance on roaches and their relatives is “stomp now and ask questions later.” But I appreciated the message. To me it was just part of a larger message of tolerance — love ALL of God’s creatures. Because I’m one of those crazy hippies who thinks that since Jesus taught tolerance Christians should actually BE tolerant. How sad that this church was targeted for trying to live up to this ideal.

Well put… nuff said. It amazes me on a daily basis how people so often forget that Jesus preached tolerance.
I’m not a religious person either but your statement summed it up perfectly.

Sometimes, I think about the story of what Jesus did to the temple and then I think of today’s society… and then I think of that money-making slogan, “What would Jesus do?”
… and then I stop, because, the shame and embarrassment I feel is too great.
